ACCRA, Ghana — Her Majesty Olori Atuwatse III, Queen of the Warri Kingdom and co-founder of Elevate Africa, has called for greater African leadership and homegrown solutions to address the continent’s development challenges.
She made the call in Accra on October 26, 2026, during the unveiling of the 2026 Elevate Africa Annual Convening, scheduled for October 28–29 under the theme, “Africa Defines Its Future.”
The gathering is expected to bring together political leaders, traditional rulers, investors, creatives and members of the African diaspora to discuss African leadership, economic integration and practical solutions to the continent’s challenges.
Olori Atuwatse III highlighted the importance of recognising Africa’s existing strengths, resources and expertise rather than relying solely on external solutions.
She outlined key priorities for Elevate Africa, including promoting African-led solutions, connecting leaders with creatives and developing talent across the continent.
Her message underscores the need for Africans to take greater ownership of the continent’s development by strengthening local capacity, encouraging innovation and creating opportunities for collaboration.
The discussions are also expected to focus on removing barriers to trade and improving cooperation among African countries.
Stakeholders have emphasised the importance of advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), facilitating cross-border movement and strengthening payment systems to make business easier across national boundaries.
With Africa possessing significant human and natural resources, advocates of stronger continental integration argue that improved cooperation could unlock new opportunities for investment, enterprise and sustainable economic growth.
Elevate Africa is also placing emphasis on developing emerging leaders and amplifying the voices of young Africans.
By connecting established leaders with young professionals, entrepreneurs and creatives, the initiative seeks to encourage the exchange of ideas and support solutions that reflect the continent’s needs and aspirations.
The wider objective is to move beyond discussions about Africa’s challenges and focus on practical action, stronger institutions and opportunities for the next generation.
The call for African-led solutions also reflects a broader push to improve how the continent is represented globally.
Greater visibility for African achievements, innovations and success stories can help challenge persistent stereotypes while encouraging confidence in local talent and institutions.
As preparations continue for the Elevate Africa convening in Accra, the central message is clear: Africa’s future should be shaped by Africans through collaboration, innovation and a stronger commitment to homegrown development.
